I did some things you may have heard of, and then my worldview shattered. Now I'm cross-posting the multiverse, which is why it is incoherent. Pull the thread.

Longish Thread 👇 Most of us have heard of 'Regulatory Capture' by the industry. But have you heard of 'Capture of Law Making Process' itself? Fasten your seatbelts. A sordid tale of how lobbying has almost succeeded in getting its masters a free pass from accountability 1/n

It's good to see a relationship - an interfaith relationship - survive and flourish for decades. Without any infidelity/discord rumours too.

Again: Donald trump was already a fucking moron so when dementia struck him, it was harder to detect than with most people. But I mean, holy shit. Even his handlers have got to admit by now that his dementia is spiraling out of control. #DementiaDonOld

Reading books/accounts from the 1920s and thereabouts, otherwise high-functioning people regularly seem to have had nervous breakdowns that necessitated months of recuperation in a restful sanatorium. What happened to that? Better treatment? Less stress?

There are now papers showing that the migration of academic communities from Twitter to other social media sites mostly failed. But they never fully returned to Twitter either. I wonder if we will ever see so many different communities interacting in the same online space again.

When will we stop repeating that canard about the census being delayed due to the pandemic? It's delayed because the census has stringent privacy provisions that are a serious drag on this regime's surveillance aspirations. They have to gut it first.

I’ve come to abandon the use case for LLMs to summarize text because the summaries usually miss vital parts and are disappointing when I look closer. Australian government now has proof this is the case. Another proof that LLMs have more limitations we need to understand.

10 and I had a great time at IndiaFOSS 2024, showing off our FOSS 3D printers, so much so I completely forgot to take any photos. Just this one from the day before. If you have pics, please share. #indiafoss2024
