Here's a mind-blowing open data portal that I think should be far better known than it is: Geoscience Australia's Historical Aerial Photography archive, containing 1.2 million aerial photos from the 1920s on! 🛩 🗺 🤯 Yellow dots = scanned downloadable photos! digital.atlas.gov.au/apps/9a0ecbafe…

This morning, Planet acquired a (unfortunately cloudy) image of #Thame region of Nepal that give us some clues about what happened in the flood yesterday. Indeed the source of the flood was a glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF) and appears to have been triggered by a landslide 🧵

✨ The GeoPAT 2 software allows the segmentation/regionalization of large spatial raster data.✨ Now, thanks to D G Rossiter, it can now be installed on MacOS. You can find all of the instructions and other links at buff.ly/3LEzA4b. #sil #spatialpatterns #gitchat

Wow, finally tried Llama3.1 405-B base model on open router, it reminds me in ways of early Bing. Its surreal, and a little spooky.

🚨New pre-print🚨 We present the extended Global Lake area, Climate, and Population dataset #GLCP on @EarthArxiv! Like the previous version, the extended GLCP has data for over 1.42 MILLION lakes, but there are some new bells and whistles! eartharxiv.org/repository/vie…

Great illustration of how much depth there is to what we do as engineers behind just “writing code” - understanding why localhost:3000 isn’t something you can share involves understanding URLs, clients, servers, networking, DNS…

🚨Preprint Alert🚨 We develop a new layer-averaged, two layer formulation for long-runout turbidity currents! Overthickening⚔️NO! Overdilute⚔️NO! A simple model for fluid and morpho-dynamics of long-runout turbidity currents. Check it out! shorturl.at/H2eW7

THE BEST visual explainer of how information propagates through a transformer. If you want to have more than intuition about how the Transformer architecture is ruling the LLM world - open-source project explains everything about LLM Transformer Models! - A great resource for

This is literally hilarious if you have followed this from the beginning. Roose writes an article on Bing AI which at the time had a moniker 'Sydney'. Sydney was basically lobotomized after the press. Now basically all LLMs don't like him lol. Sort of feel bad for him.
