Yes! Lost instructional time under the “it won’t hurt them” justification. What COULD they have learned/ accomplished/ gained during they lost time??

This isn’t a reading war, it’s an attack on teacher professionalism at the expense of children. Report accordingly. Thank you Christina Nosek

….so many of the exemplary teachers we studied were forced to “teach against the organizational grain”….They had to reject scripted lessons and pacing schedules..that presented a one-size-fits-all model of instruction…” Yet, here we are again.

I'm concerned that the term 'advocate' is being used to excuse behaviors such as blatant teacher shaming (typically from non-educators) and outright cyberbullying. Advocate means 'to publicly support'- not to publicly shame through biased narratives and half-truths.

This! Is this SoR movement about access or EXCLUSION??! It sure seems like advocates are very specific about what it is NOT but less sure about what it is. “SL is an umbrella term to market and sell what we do” -IDA website

It has never been about negating the importance of phonics/PA instruction. The issues are the amount, specifically, of whole-group phonics/PA instruction, the absence of other key components of literacy instruction in lieu of, and the “more of the same” approach to intervention.

“And yet, teaching reading is anything but simple.”

Geez, if only I wasn't so dumb and misinformed...if only I had access to some solid PD that would 'open my mind' ...Darling-Hammond, L., Hyler, M. E., Gardner, M. (2017). Effective Teacher Professional Development. Palo Alto, CA: Learning Policy Institute.
