Storms moving into the area Monday afternoon and evening will bring a low risk for severe weather, but greater risks for widespread rainfall. In some areas, rain total may reach 1.5". Here's a look at the most likely range of rainfall totals by Tuesday morning.

🌧️ and⛈️ are expected to redevelop near I-29 by early afternoon and then push off to the east thru the late afternoon and evening hours. Lightning, small hail and brief downpours are the primary threats with a low chance of a stronger storm.

Periods of ⛈️ will bring the potential for locally heavier rainfall totals. While widespread flooding issues are NOT expected, any heavier rain that occurs over urban or already saturated areas, may result in isolated flooding. River flooding continues on the upper Little Sioux.

[Radar update at 12:48 pm on Friday, 5/31]: Scattered showers with embedded thunder have developed early this afternoon. Expect the showers to become more widespread over the coming hours. Lightning and brief heavy rain are the primary hazards with the showers.

As the winds come up later this Wednesday morning and especially early afternoon, we will likely also see a few light showers cycle through the area. These showers may also act to locally enhance wind further during the afternoon.

Warm air aloft should limit storm development this afternoon. A few elevated storms may develop behind a cold front overnight-early Thursday. If this occurs, an isolated strong to severe storm is possible, mainly toward south central South Dakota west of the James River.
