Unrelated to #NephJC mystery case Did you know that Alport syndrome was discovered in 1927 by Cecil Alport? It was called hereditary familial congenital hemorrhagic nephritis Genetic transmission was demonstrated by 💉 serum from pts to 2 rabbits🐰 pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/20773074/

So proud of O'Brien Kidney Resource Alliance summer student and WashU undergrad Teija Suhas for her wrap-up presentation on assaying variants of uncertain significance in patients with suspected #AlportSyndrome. Thanks WU in STL Nephrology SOAR program! 😍the coffee filter analogy!

Have you submitted your late-breaking clinical trial for #KidneyWk? This year's meeting features multiple oral sessions and more presentation time for high-impact research. Share your Phase 2, 3, or 4 clinical trial on a global stage. Learn more: asn.kdny.info/wqL350SxVm5

This is one of the most insightful articles American Society of Nephrology I have read in a while about where Nephrology as a specialty is headed. For sure things will not remain the same. Which scenario do you feel is more likely: kidneynews.org/view/journals/…

Hot off the press! "Mechanisms of assembly and remodelling of the extracellular matrix" is now out in Nature Reviews Molecular Cell Biology doi.org/10.1038/s41580… It is a privilege to have been asked to review the current state of #ECM research and discuss exciting emerging research avenues, a 🧵:

Interesting aspect of Dr. Alport's 1927 paper: “Hereditary nephritis is a definite entity; kidneys in these patients are more susceptible to damage by the toxin of an unknown organism than is the case in the normal person.” A reasonable (for 1927) but incorrect hypothesis.
