Honestly, then put in Bocce ball courts. Having a baseball diamond and then adding a bunch of rules that mean you can’t really play the game is…one mean city.

“Home runs not allowed.”

Children/people of Toronto:

Ignore this sign. It was written in error, by a hapless bureaucrat.

Swing for the fences. Always!

Nothing makes me roll my eyes more than people imploring that we have always been a city for cars...'it's just who we are.'

Nonsense.

Cities are a product of choices - and our choices are tied to our vision for our shared future (or, our lack of vision).

Our clogged streets…

I completely agree.

This was/is my disappointment with CafeTO. In many places we jam unsightly barriers between rushing traffic and diners and expect it to be pleasant. It’s a low bar.

The city needs to become aspirational again. In the absence of aspiration the city is…

Montreal's pedestrian streets - in just three years, there are now 11 of them! - are coveted by the Buisness community and touted by the Tourism Board. No one wants to live in or visit a city that is choked with traffic, causing annoyance, air and noise pollution.

There are so many things in a city that you just can't get half right, or you get a jumbled, chaotic, dangerous mess.

For example, you have to go all in on cycling infrastructure if you want to create a cycling city.

We can work with what we have. There are many streets we can pedestrianize. Toronto is a massive geographical area. MTL has created a remarkable culture shift by shutting off just 11, also in a city of 1000's of streets.

There is a way!

And yet, even so-called ‘affordable housing focused funds’ (you can Google them, all the banks have splashy announcements about them) look for market returns (yes, on affordable housing.) Many of these funds, announced with great fanfare, haven’t dispersed a penny for affordable…

Many re-zoned sites for sale in Toronto right now. Builders who spent years and big $$$ to attain approvals are now finding they cannot get construction loans to build their projects. If they can’t build, they are saddled with carrying costs and praying for a buyer who will cover…

Yes; downtown condos are filled with young parents who were themselves raised in the suburbs with the long commute.

In other countries, where gas taxes are high, large private vehicles are comparatively rare. Some places have also moved to reduce the appeal of SUVs and light trucks, mostly through higher-cost parking and registration. In Canada, though, such measures remain rare.
