The Jen Liou lab Cell Biology UTSW shows the PI/PA lipid transfer protein Nir2 needs its paralog Nir1 to target ER-plasma membrane contacts molbiolcell.org/doi/pdf/10.109… This is the 1st function ever for Nir1, which is not a lipid transfer protein, tho' it shares all other domains with Nir2/3

The Art Weiss group UC San Francisco show immature T-cells express highly sensitive components: IP3R2 STIM2 & NIR3. Mature T-cells swap these for IP3R3, STIM1 & NIR2. nature.com/articles/s4159… NIR3 supports low level PIP2 hydrolysis by exchanging PI for PA at levels lower than seen by NIR2.
