Dr Jenny Thatcher A primary school child told me he knew his mum couldn't afford school trips so he told teachers he didn't want to go - which meant they didn't offer to pay for him from a small fund the church gives the head teacher every year to quietly help with these things. Mum doesn't know.

It’s not just cost. A lot of scheduling of arts venues isn’t catered to people who don’t work 9-5 hours, which mostly impacts those on lower incomes. Also, research shows it’s not that w/c aren’t going to events, it’s that they attend less frequently because it’s less accessible

UK emergency plans are notoriously written through a white, male, secular lens. One fundamental lacuna was how to respond to faith. When we exercised before 2017, I often noticed that people thought that faith rites would be “negotiable” in extremis i.e… middleeasteye.net/news/grenfell-…

This is heartbreaking. Even more heartbreaking that it's not the first time the athletics community has lost such an incredible female athlete to domestic violence. 💔 It needs to stop! RIP Rebecca. 🙏

Imagine if let the mother enjoy a single cigarette on the beach while the kids were (at a distance) paddling in the waves. That would’ve probably been to much for people. It was the number one narrative told to me as a kid of why my mother was poor.

If you want to understand why we ended up in the state that we have, see the comments from the absolute compassion-vacuums who unfortunatley walk among us.

Dr Jenny Thatcher It doesn’t change the rich don’t make money, they take money. It’s impossible to have that much money without profiting off other people's lack of it. Instead of society of rejecting them we worship them & chastise the poor & vulnerable #InequalityCrisis thebritishacademy.ac.uk/blog/how-pover…

Not satisfied with stealing a woman’s vocation and life, he had to make her suffer in sheer pain and terror. I can’t imagine what Rebecca Cheptegei went through when she was doused in petrol and set alight. What a time to be a woman.

This an excellent multi thread discussion/rabbit warren of a post that’s worth working through. Anyone thinking of commenting with a “go without” mantra should have a read of this report to understand the impacts of social exclusion. #inequalitycrisis strathprints.strath.ac.uk/28281/1/Irish_…

“As a society, we value the lives of some people more than others.” The Grenfell Inquiry final report shows how “working class” and “racialized communities” are not listened to by authorities, Deborah Coles, executive director of human rights charity Inquest, says.
