New paper by Aurich Jeltsch-Thömmes:Massive ocean alkalinity enhancement (unclear if technically and socio-economically achievable) might be able to lower atmospheric CO2,but with substantial trade-offs and lags. Not emitting carbon is clearly preferable. shorturl.at/fkrAE

I'm glad to see this paper out, especially because I've learned so much about SCMs 🔎🌐 in the process. It's in line with what we're trying to achieve within ESM2025: cross-fertilization between modelling groups and platforms: esm2025.eu/esm-iam-framew… (a thread will come soon)

First paper from my Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) scholarship out. Has been a while but was worth it. Main pints: Changes in the atm CO2 growth rate mainly drive decadal trends in the ocean CO2 sink, even under declining emissions, and the decadal variability in most pCO2 products is likely too high.
