In 2010 the whole of the public sector made up 19.7% of NZ’s total workforce. In 2023 it made up 18.8%. Claims there has been an explosion in the public sector are pure spin to justify sacking hard working Kiwis to pay for unaffordable tax cuts. This govt has the wrong priorities

Christopher Luxon and David Seymour - so in your haste to get kids to stay in school and do well, you remove funding for transport, school maintenance and repairs, lunches, and now specialised SUPPORT FOR DISABLED KIDS?

This is disingenuous claptrap. The best maths and science brains in the world are already telling you what needs to be done - in fact some have been telling you for decades. The problem of global warming has *not* been solved because there is simply no will to solve it

🧵The huge chunk of NZ news media we've lost this week isn't going to be the last of it. The two projects that received the larger part of the PIJF funding, Open Justice and Local Democracy, are disappearing. We will know much less about what happens in our courts and councils.

This is all about changing the way NZ measures methane warming from the international standard (GWP100) to the industry non-science standard (GWP*) which meat and dairy lobby is pushing. It’s Climate science denialism. rnz.co.nz/news/political…

Ideology like this can result in perverse legislation like Christopher Luxon's Fast-Track Approvals Bill.

It's designed to sidestep vital environmental protection to put profit ahead of everything else.

The NZ govt is proposing a number of changes to environmental legislation which will negatively impact biodiversity.

NZ EcologicalSociety joined nine other societies to call on the govt to slow the pace of these changes and consult more widely:

Councils are warning proposed cuts to rail would push ‘super heavies’ onto regional roads that weren’t built to handle massive trucks. The Coalition's transport policy will mean more potholes, not less.

The tax cuts for landlords are obscene: half a billion to just 346 megalandlords. 346 landlords own over 200 properties each; they get avg tax cut of $1.3m over 5 yrs; ie $464m. While funding of conservation, climate, environment, poverty is at risk as Govt is short of money!
