I taught Kelly Clarkson about the biases encoded in a medical device called a “pulse oximeter!” Pulse oximeters measure your oxygen saturation levels. But studies have shown they are three times as likely to lead to overestimated oxygen sat. levels in patients with darker skin.

Yesterday, a bill to “Ban DEI in Medicine” was introduced into the United States Congress. I created a short video about the harms that this bill would have.

Today, Representative Murphy introduced a Bill in Congress to “Ban DEI in Medicine.” This isn’t just bad policy, it will actively harm and lead to worse outcomes for minority patients, and set back the little progress that has been made in medicine.
