Many younger Democrats may not appreciate that Republicans had controlled the White House for 12 years before Bill Clinton came along in 1992 and ended the streak against a popular Republican President. He was/is an exceedingly rare political talent.

What was remarkable about the DNC was the energetic convergence of the party's political lions (Clintons, Obamas, Pelosi) with today's standard bearers (Harris Walz) and glimpse into the future stars (Moore, Shapiro, Jeffries, Whitmer, Polis, Neguse etc). It was great to be there

The other take away from the DNC is that the group of party leaders likely to follow Harris Walz in 8 years (Moore Shapiro Polis Whitmer etc) are leaders and problem solvers cut from the NewDem Coalition mold. This is a very good thing for the party and the country to my mind.

.Senator Joe Manchin won the WV Senate seat multiple times and voted for a Democrat to run the Senate. Now, with Manchin retiring, the Democrat Senate candidate is losing WV by a whopping 34%! Many Dems foolishly underestimated how valuable Manchin was to the Democratic Party.

One cause of this problem is a good thing, which is US unemployment has been low for some time. I ran for Congress in 2012 and unemployment was sadly 9% and there was an abundance of campaign talent as a result.
