I expect every decent Labour MP to vote against the removal of the winter fuel allowance. An abstention is withdrawing your vote and does not count. We've had 14 years of this. We're not gonna stand for any more.

Rate of UK unemployment falls to 4.1%, down from 4.2% in the previous three months. Sterling rises against dollar. Growth in pay outpaces inflation. As Starmer and Reeves never stop telling us, it really is the most appalling economic inheritance ever.

Good news. The full 'new' state pension is to rise £460 a year next year due to the triple lock. That is a real rise of about £200 above inflation. Yet there are 2 things I'd point out in the context of the debate about the winter fuel payment. 1. That starts next April. This

It cannot be explained more simply than this. Sharon Graham is right & it’s good to see her exposing Keir Starmer & Rachel Reeves for the frauds they are. Tax the wealthiest 1%. Make different choices. People voted for CHANGE. The Labour Party need to deliver it.

Not the elderly though. The Labour Party have decided that vulnerable elderly people on £12k pa deserve to go cold this winter so they’ve introduced a means test. Clement Attlee must be turning in his grave #StarmerOut

But not, apparently, with the elderly. The Labour Party have decided that vulnerable elderly people on £12k pa deserve to go cold this winter so they’ve introduced a means test. Clement Attlee must be turning in his grave #StarmerOut

Rachael Maskell says its with her conscience that she cannot vote for the govts measures (to scrap the universal winter fuel allowance for pensioners)

348 MPs just voted to throw vulnerable pensioners under the bus. Cruel, unnecessary and will almost certainly lead to excess deaths this Winter. The worst part about it? They are Labour MPs. A party that was set up to champion the most vulnerable in society. Shameful.

We’re very disappointed the Government has voted to cut the Winter Fuel Payment but they still have a responsibility to struggling pensioners. We won’t stop campaigning for people like Lalita and Derek who need support this #winter. Sign our petition 👉 bit.ly/3MGg1ZP

Oh boohoo. I imagine there will be quite a few more pensioners in tears as they shiver this winter. What a disgraceful way to start a new government. I think we can safely say that this this is not the change that people voted for.

Susanna Reid: "[an MP] on £91,000 is allowed to use taxpayers cash to pay for their energy bills but a pensioner on £11,500 can't claim winter fuel allowance?" #GMB

Ermine clad Harriet Harman joins bishops, mates of party leaders, ex MP’s, tycoons, actors, superannuated trade union officials, pensioned off civil servants, media moguls, retired academics and other members of the elite in the undemocratic House of Lords.

Sentence 1 is correct. Sentence 2 is nonsense arithmetically for most pensioners and also Labour did not put pensions up last April! Sentence 3 also nonsense as it won’t happen. DWP’s own forecast would mean 112,000 more would get it and over 700,000 still would not.
