Counting my blessings this morning - they so easily could've played Texas-Michigan at a soulless NFL stadium in prime time, and instead we get the Big House full to the brim on a Saturday morning.

Respectable possession for Michigan. 9 plays, 55 yards, and perhaps as important, 5:45 on the clock. (Or 23:43 if you include "Media time-outs.") UM defense needed a break.

Surprised to see Texas running the ball so effectively against Michigan's D -- many of the same players that stopped Ohio State and Alabama in 2023-24. 13/65 averaging 5YPC.

Texas facing third and goal from the 8. Texas 7/8 on third down conversions. Michigan 0/3. Seems like that might just be a factor here.

Michigan's D pressure and coverage forces a throw-away on third and goal from the 8. Field goal is good. Texas 17 Michigan 3 2:40 2nd qtr. If the plan is to lose more slowly, it's working.

On third-and-12, Warren hits the normally reliable Loveland, untouched, who tries to transfer the ball and loses it, for a free fumble for Texas. A minute left -- plenty of time for Texas to do some damage.

Ewers finds Golden just inside the pylon for a 5-yard touchdown. Texas 24 Michigan 3 Yes, you can commence yard care if you wish.

I will never, for the life of me, understand why any team down 24-3 with the ball on its own 18, on the last play of the half, takes a knee. It's a freebie, and you need a spark. Sez me.

End of first half: Texas 24, Michigan 3 Yardage: Texas 279, Michigan 88 Third downs: Texas 8/10, Michigan 1/5. Go start your lawnmowers, and if you don't make it back for the second half, you're excused.

Final thoughts: Michigan got beat on offense, as expected, but also on D, giving up ~400 to Texas. UM will get better, esp at OL and probably QB, but based on today, 8 wins might be the ceiling. Of course, that's the price of rebuilding after a title year, and losing key coaches.

Michigan lost its first regular-season game since 2021, and its first home game since 2020, in blowout fashion to the Texas Longhorns: 247sports.com/college/michig…
