The disastrous premiere of Elgar's cello concerto otd 1919. Thank goodness Beatrice Harrison subsequently rescued the work; but the first performer, Felix Salmond, was also a great cellist - the failure not his fault at all. And today it's deeply, rightly beloved - a masterpiece!
