Driven by elevated winds, fire activity picked up on the Thunder Creek (G72443) wildfire today, located 3km E of the Bearhole Lake Provincial Park. Since the late afternoon, rank 5 fire behaviour has been observed, which is an extremely vigorous surface or active crown fire.

Circling for Starliner re-entry and landing.

Today fires within the Ootsa Lake Complex (south of Burns Lake) had Rank 5 fire behaviour, an extremely vigorous active crown fire. When fire behaviour is like this responder safety is top priority.

Crews were moved to safe zones to reassess objectives. Aviation resources continued to respond with heli-bucket support.    Sabina Lake (R11204) and Mount Wells (R12015) wildfires both remain south of Ootsa Lake.

Structure protection is on the north shore of Ootsa Lake, crews will work overnight to respond to any potential spotting. High level infrared scanning will take place tonight to get maps of fire perimeters. Details on these fires can be found on our map: wildfiresituation.nrs.gov.bc.ca/map
