Who quits? We analyzed 328,515 men’s pro tennis matches & showed a discontinuity: favorites in the match who've fallen behind are more likely to quit than underdogs. The burden of high expectations is real. Be gentle as you judge Olympic athletes, politicians, etc.

So close and yet so far. 🤔 “Thanks for this email, Mike. Actually, I’m already a full professor in this department, and I’m on the search committee for this job. But I appreciate you emailing me about this opportunity to re-apply for an assistant professor position.” Ah, spam…

When you have a tough personal goal, pursuing it in tandem w/ a friend can be inconvenient. But the results are often better, despite the added coordination hassle. #Choiceology Season 14 kicks off w/ Rachel Gershon's research & #Olympic medalist Max Maeder's story.

Last year, we lost the great The Wharton School Prof. Howard Kunreuther. He was an incredible scholar and an exceptional colleague. Here's an essay entitled "Mentoring for Good" that I contributed to a collection out this week in The Regulatory Review honoring his legacy ❤️ theregreview.org/2024/08/26/mil…

As a massive fan of reading who studies behavior change, I loved this op-ed. Sometimes the answer to behavior change is cold, hard cash. And to everyone worried paying kids will destroy their intrinsic motivation, the research suggests it won’t. 📚❤️ nytimes.com/2024/09/02/opi…
