Snowy weather conditions Wednesday prompted the cancellation of the Assembly-School Board Liaison meeting and regular Ketchikan School Board meeting. The next regular School Board meeting will be on March 13. The Assembly-School Board Liaison meeting will be rescheduled.

The Ketchikan School District has closed district schools on Wednesday because of the weather forecast. The Nat'l Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory that’s currently in effect for 6 am to 6 pm Wednesday, with snow accumulations of 3-5 inches expected.

Jordan Joplin was sentenced Tuesday in Ketchikan Superior Court to 99 years in state prison for the 2017 murder of Dr. Eric Garcia in Ketchikan. Joplin had been convicted on June 1 by an Anchorage Superior Court jury of 1st- & 2nd-degree murder and one count of 1st-degree theft.
