Today, I am at the Capitol for a hearing of the Sunset Commission. The purpose of this commission is to identify and eliminate unnecessary government programs and agencies that waste taxpayer money, while reaffirming those that are necessary.

Earlier this week, I joined Dr. Richard Bartlett and Mark Christian on KWEL to discuss the “Campaign Kickoff” for United Way Odessa and its impact on the community.

Yesterday, I attended the 'Campaign Kickoff' for United Way Odessa, marking the beginning of a fundraising effort to support nonprofits in the area. I'm looking forward to the positive impact this will have on our community. It was great to see so many come out to support it.

Through 3 pm, isolated storms will form across the central and NW Panhandles. Storms will increase in coverage becoming scattered as activity peaks between 5 and 9 pm. While storms will not appear organized, they will be capable of producing localized severe wind gusts. #phwx

Thunderstorms continue to form in a few areas across the Panhandles, across the northwest, southwest, and far east. Any storms today will have the potential to produce damaging wind gusts (up to 70 to 75 mph) and small hail. Isolated heavy rain will also be possible. #phwx

Over the weekend, I attended a celebration for Dr. Richard Bartlett, where the Ector County Republican Women’s Club presented him with the inaugural Hometown Hero Award. Congratulations Dr. Bartlett!

Last week, I attended the Produced Water Society's 9th Annual Permian Basin Conference and delivered the opening speech. It was great to connect with so many dedicated professionals to discuss issues vital to the Permian Basin.

Xcel Energy & the electric cooperatives forecasts indicate that, unless customers cut back on use, electricity demand will exceed the amount of electricity the companies will be able to supply.

Failure to reduce electricity demand could result in controlled electric service interruptions within the region. Elderly people or people who have health concerns should NOT turn off their air conditioners.

Last week, I attended a press conference for the upcoming mental health facility in Amarillo. I am thankful for the support of those in the legislature and our community who helped bring this much-needed mental health hospital to fruition.

September is Suicide Prevention Month, while the state has dedicated resources to this issue plaguing our society, especially our youth, the work is far from over. I will continue advocating for Texans' mental health, but real change happens within our communities.

On this day, we remember the tragic events of September 11, 2001. We honor the lives lost, the bravery of first responders, and the resilience of our nation. Today, we stand in solidarity, remembering that even in our darkest hours, hope and unity prevail. Never forget.

Recently, I had the opportunity to attend a Permian Basin Petroleum Association panel, where I was joined by fellow legislators Tom Craddick & Brooks Landgraf. It was great to reconnect with them & offer attendees insights into the upcoming session.
