Writing is hard for many native-English-speaking students. Our ELLs are going to struggle. We can make that struggle productive. One of the most helpful ways I find to help is to have these priorities in mind.

Simple texts can be helpful, but our ELLs can get stuck on simple if that is all we ever expose them to!
Challenging texts can be, well...challenging.

Does anyone work at a school with 'equity-based grading'? I just came across this for the first time. How does it work and is it helpful? 🤔

ELLs & PHONICS: It can be easy to fall into the trap of thinking that students can't read texts until they know their phonics well enough. The problem is that students will never know their phonics well enough if they are not reading texts.
