Does Michkov have to be aware of other guys trying to run him? Ian Laperriere: “I think he’s used to it. When you’re that talented, everywhere you’ve been somebody would come after you. … I wouldn’t know, I wasn’t that guy. I went after guys like that.”

This was the shift that I think made everyone say to themselves...OK, this dude has got some tools. He won't be able to do this at the NHL level yet, of course. But it was still impressive as hell.

"“He’s lean, he’s big and he’s strong. ... He’s a powerful skater and hasn’t lost any of the quickness that you worry about when you are gaining weight.” Hunter McDonald put on 20 lbs in the off-season, and his nastiness has been evident in rookie camp. nytimes.com/athletic/57685…

Laperriere doesn't know why Kolosov won't report. Points out that last season some teammates asked him to dinner repeatedly and "he said no. I get it, he doesn't speak English, so that's going to be tough." But, "it's part of pro hockey when you go from one country to the other."

Bad take. Anyone who's ever met Ian Laperriere knows that he's among the friendliest, most affable people in hockey. If he can't make someone feel welcome, no one can. Anyone suggesting this is somehow his fault has zero clue.

He hadn't played in a month when he arrived, the team was in the middle of a playoff chase, and Cal Petersen was apparently playing well. Maybe the organization erred somehow along the way. Maybe the kid just doesn't want to be here. But pointing the finger at IL is dumb
