If we stop calling it "remote work" and call it simply "work", maybe we'll start finding ways to be highly performant instead of focusing on the obstacles. In a deeply connected world, assuming people will go back to the industrial 9-5 is absurd.

The toxic environment in software engineering is created by maintaining polarized views on "best practices". TDD, BDD, DDD - you're either doing it right or you're doing it wrong. There's no such thing as "best practice". There's only what's best for the context of your project.

High performance requires engineers to get in a state of flow. No metric will enable that. Don't look into lines of code. Focus on uninterrupted time instead. If your team's schedule is shattered by unnecessary meetings, that's where you need to start optimizing.

By definition, legacy is something with long-lasting impact. We kinda redefined it as "old and useless". High performance depends on code that's easy to read. Stable code you don't need to touch is valuable code as is. It's *legacy*. Don't rewrite just for the sake of it.

Engineers know it. Managers need to learn it. Metrics are not an indicator of performance. Value is. Tune in to hear Mite Mitreski's insights on this and much more in the latest episode of CTO Insights - insights.toshotrajanov.com/p/driving-succ….

When I started speaking at conferences I dreaded q&a. Today, I’m proud to say I don’t know. I guess it’s my way of saying I’m not here to make myself look good. I’m here to share what I know and hope it gives you a different perspective. Thanks Laravel Worldwide Meetup for having me 🙌
