"Climate change is not some abstract issue. Whether or not we address climate change goes to the heart of whether or not we have a functioning economy and whether or not people can live the lives that they deserve" - Tessa Khan exec director & founder of Uplift

I just confronted the CEO of @equinor and it’s majority shareholder, the Norwegian government, at their AGM. The people in this room are responsible for the UK’s biggest undeveloped oil field - Rosebank. We are no longer pleading. We will #StopRosebank

NEW: Week of Protests Over Equinor’s Media Sponsorship Greenwashing Campaigners likened the fossil fuel company’s patronage of climate events to letting an “arsonist sponsor a fire safety conference”. By me, Phoebe Cooke & Ellen Ormesher 👀👇 desmog.com/2024/05/17/pro…

Today's decision by the Supreme Court in the Finch case is genuinely historic. It marks a turning point towards more sensible planning-related decision-making in the UK, and crucially towards a safer climate. x.com/WealdActionGr/… 🧵

WIN FOR THE CLIMATE! The decision to approve new oil drilling in Surrey was just declared UNLAWFUL at the Supreme Court. So proud to be here standing in solidarity with Sarah Finch and Weald Action Group for the judgement. ❤️✊ This is HUGE. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

Response from the campaign group Uplift : If sites like Horse Hill are deemed unlawful on this basis, other oil and gas projects should be too - including the huge Rosebank field off Shetland which will emit more CO2 than the world’s 28 low income countries combined.

🚨 More than 60% of the world's population experienced extreme temperatures last month. Fossil-fuelled climate heating is making heat waves hotter and more frequent, leading to thousands of premature deaths. It's high time we put a stop to new oil and gas.

Clearly we have no cause for complacency with the far-right mobilising in the UK, but these front pages all signal that an important narrative shift took place last night. Massive respect to all who turned out.

BREAKING: The UK gov't has rightly recognised that approving the Rosebank oil field without taking into account the full extent of its climate impacts was unlawful. It has conceded that argument in our & Greenpeace's legal challenge against the field. So what does that mean? 🧵

#StopRosebank (@stopcambo) 's Twitter Profile Photo

BREAKING 🚨: The UK government has decided not to defend the case against Rosebank. This is a massive win and a huge step towards stopping Rosebank for good.
