Fascinating bird-photography in the high Caucasus should be a great activity on rather monotonous winter days. You may want to check out the details here: bit.ly/the-frosty-cau… 📽️ Güldenstädt's (White-winged) Redstarts

It was a good start to migfest today, with Red-breasted flycatcher, Wryneck and Red-backed shrike all seen in the triangle before midday! Spurn Bird Observatory #spurnbirds

It has been the hottest June to August on record - both globally and for Europe. This increases the likelihood that 2024 will end up as the hottest year on record globally. Human-induced climate change is driving such anomalous warmth, with El Nino a contributing factor.

This Wryneck was a worthwhile diversion before I made it to the Ponds this morning, just 2 Curlew Sands, Spot Red and single 1cy Caspian Gull to show for my efforts there Spurn Bird Observatory RareBirdAlertUK BirdGuides

Barred Warblers are pretty rare in Wales; on Skokholm one today was only the fourth of the last 12 years. A Dotterel went over and a Spoonbill was on North Pond, whilst at least ten Tree Pipit, four Yellow Wagtail, a Redstart and three Whinchat are about the Obs

Following this morning's accident, the WESTBOUND #A303 still remains FULLY CLOSED beyond the interchange with the #M3 and the #A34. There is a queue of at least 17 miles from the Basingstoke section of M3 and the M27 at Southampton (4 hour delay). Please avoid if possible x.com/BasGazette/sta…

In this morning's gloom, a bunch of SANDWICH TERNS were displaced from the River Thames. This included a total of 18 at QMR that presumably were responsible for this adult and juvenile I saw at Spade Oak and the 4 adults I recorded at Dorney Common North flood

What. A. Day. This brief Wryneck at Burnham Overy was the tin lid on an epic birding session for Nick Parsons and me today. Between here and Wells early on, we logged 50 Redstarts, 12 Spot Fly, 11 Pied Fly, 11 Garden Warbler, 50+ WWarbler, 40+ Wheatear, 2 Tree Pipit etc. Mega!

We can't grumble at 2 American vagrants present at the moment. Hopefully both will stay tomorrow for the All Dayer. The Lesser Scaup is starting to grow back it's flight feathers. Also 3 Common Scoter today.

The first half of next week will bring the first proper widespread feel of autumn. Arctic air, combined with a brisk wind will make it feel cool, and bring showers. There’ll even be some snow on the peaks of Scottish mountains. Images: Tropical Tidbits

After a run of lean years for virtually all the common Autumn migrants in the Lowestoft area it was nice to see Spotted and Pied Flycatchers, Redstarts and Willow Warblers appear in good numbers this afternoon. The Redstarts were rather more camera shy.
