THAT PART. 👇 In so many of these sport processes, they apply legal standards to non-legal situations, which is usually designed to throw up barriers to victim-survivors seeking accountability. Unacceptable and utterly unnecessary.

British Gymnastics …So honour their legacy by clearing your backlog of child abuse complaints and giving justice to the athletes these two brave ladies stuck their necks out for, instead of basking in their hard fought glory.

This weekend of domestic gymnastics with BG Comms going into overdrive with glossy shiny happy images in order to convince us that all is well - and all will be well - feels a lot like Nero fiddling whilst Rome burns.

"There is no other way" #Gymnasticsabuse is often disguised as a strategy for success. The exploitation of gymnasts is justified by an idea that within the world of gymnastics, there's no other way. "Can't handle the way your coach treats you? You're not made for the sport."

More poor optics from this NGB. It’s the ‘do as I say, not as I do’ attitude that just makes me cringe. They need to get to grips with the lack of consistency across the many (new policy) messages they are putting out.

⬇️ ⬇️ RE: Saadi “The Panel nevertheless ruled that the Sanction decision could be published, stating that it was in the sport community's interest to have full transparency, and in the gymnastics community's interest to have the reasons for its decision.” x.com/EmirCrowne/sta…

Every time I see athletes come forward justifying, normalising or minimising the abuse they experienced, I hear the rhetoric of a system that has failed them. A culture that has convinced them that this is what is needed to be the best, when all of the evidence suggests otherwise

The speakers outlined that what athletes want is for the harm that was done to them as children to be acknowledged, and for those who caused the harm to be held accountable.

Minerva Liber Indeed. Keeps everyone safe and out of trouble. Can’t help thinking if these celebrities with access to media, agents and a huge public platform find it hard to speak up, imagine how hard it is for our young people?

In this piece I talk about three things: 1. Celebrating #Paris2024 might be difficult for those abused by the sporting institution. 2. National Child Safeguarding Policies 3. The need to safely engage those with lived experience of abuse in sport. #safesport #Olympics

Journalists doing the heavy lifting of others again. When it comes to coach behaviours, diligence is key! Otherwise it looks like any behaviour will be accepted should winning occur.

We need to teach athletes to understand when to quit. Persevering when your health is negatively compromised is a far greater maladaptive behaviour than choosing to give up bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

To understand it properly, we must start viewing gymnast abuse as being very similar to domestic abuse. Every abusive gymnastics coach I have ever encountered has engaged in minimisation of their abusive behaviour to manipulate others: shadowsofcontrol.com/articles/minim…

Age group competitions are for children/teenagers - super talented athletes competing on the world stage, but children nevertheless. Really hope BG now include chaperones in GB delegations when very young children are sent to major championships like this one.
