Great to discuss US/UK development priorities today with US Treasury Assistant Secretary Alexia Latortue

Both our nations share an ambitious agenda to be more effective in supporting our partners in the global south to tackle climate change, boost growth and eliminate poverty.

It is beyond disappointing that ministers are delaying a decision on funding for UNRWA.

The UK is one of the few major donors not to have resumed funding. UNRWA is critical for the aid operation in dire conditions.

The UK should show leadership on this. We need a decision now.

It’s fantastic to welcome Dr Dan Poulter MP to today’s changed Labour Party.

It’s time to end the Conservative chaos, turn the page, and get Britain’s future back. I’m really pleased that Dan has decided to join us on this journey.

UK aid has been badly managed in recent years. Labour will take a more strategic approach for greater impact & value for money:

➡️Return to 0.7% as fiscal circumstances allow

➡️Focus on the poorest people and countries

➡️Do more to boost jobs and growth with the global south

The Colonna Report makes clear that donors should have confidence in UNRWA.

Ministers must now come forward and explain how they intend to respond to the report and if they will restore future funding for UNRWA.

It is an essential lifeline in Gaza.
