I write for both adults & children when not tweeting pictures of my dog. Next novel, 'Small Bomb at Dimperley', a post-war love story - is out in September.

From the sensuous swagger of The Pink Panther Theme to the ache of Moon River, Henry Mancini was the movie soundtrack master. Both + wacky wonders by others are on the bill tonight BBC Proms. Expect Ultra-Lounge madness, the TV Avengers theme and this. GO. youtu.be/_SkcF-yjiZw?si…

I’ve just subtly photo-bombed my own book, now in the shops (three days before publication). Apparently I am a ‘beloved historical novelist’ (lies on chaise longue, puts on vast pink hat and buys brace of Pekinese)

The Mancini & ultralounge BBC Proms wasn’t just a great night out - it made such a strong case for the colour & complexity of music that you hear most often as ironic wallpaper. On BBC Sounds now and BBC Four & BBC iPlayer on Friday. To be consumed with a premixed fruit cocktail.

New paper from Tom Shakespeare and I on why we need to study intolerance and tolerance toward disability issues. Can disabled people themselves be intolerant to disability issues? Is tolerance even a good thing? Find our thoughts on this and more here: sjdr.se/articles/10.16…

It's publication day, so I'm going to retweet this thread about the inspiration behind 'Small Bomb at Dimperley' & then I'm going to go to the library & bloody GET ON with the next one. Writing is hard, but it's SO much easier than self-promotion. Thank you for your tolerance ❤️

After a really enjoyable event, I left beautiful White Horse Bookshop yesterday clutching Posy Simmonds brilliant ‘Lit Life Revisited’ and a jar of Debby’s perfectly-set home-made jam (pic taken to demonstrate this). What a lovely evening!

Visiting Keats’ House. I sort of grew up on Keats - my mother claimed that she’d never had insomnia in her life as a result of reciting the first couple of lines of ‘Ode to a Nightingale’ (‘My heart aches, and a drowsy numbness pains my sense…’) immediately on getting into bed.

Kate's Grenfell podcasts (not just the recent series, but the 200+ daily/weekly ones recorded during the Inquiry) should be compulsory listening for anyone working in social housing . Huge self-inflicted loss for the BBC.
