Taiwanese are watching US election very closely for good reasons, as pointed out by this NPR report that features a recent survey Lev Nachman, Hannah June Kim and I did for a The Brookings Institution piece. npr.org/2024/08/16/g-s…
NEW: Taiwan’s third-biggest party is fighting for its survival as its leader and top figures are mired in corruption and campaign finance scandals. I tried to make sense of the scale of Ko Wen-je’s troubles and how this might shift national politics. 1/2 asia.nikkei.com/Politics/Ko-We…
Spoke to Thompson Chau and Nikkei Asia about Ko Wen-je and TPP's recent corruption scandal: "The commentator took a dim view of the TPP's tactics, arguing its criticism of Taiwan's judiciary, prosecutors and ruling party have sown division and distrust." asia.nikkei.com/Politics/Ko-We…

I've read through Oliver Kim and Jen-Kuan Wang's paper. In short, this empirical study is groundbreaking. It provides evidence for what some historians have been arguing: Taiwan's land reform success has been exaggerated and turned into a miracle narrative. Thread (1/15)
Comments from Ko in an interview by Thompson Chau in Nikkei Asia. I was amused by this line, since it shows Ko doesn't actually pay a lot of attention to US politics. I mean, the FBI searched Trump's home in Mar-A-Lago with Biden in power, did they not? asia.nikkei.com/Editor-s-Picks…
NEW: #Taiwan’s embattled opposition party leader Ko Wen-je spoke exclusively to Nikkei Asia after he was released from custody. Having risen spectacularly in politics, his woes appear Shakespearean. He talked about the probe, judiciary, defence etc. 1/7 asia.nikkei.com/Editor-s-Picks…
