Let's make it clear: living on the streets is not a ‘lifestyle choice’ - it is a sign of failed government policy. No one should be punished for being homeless. Criminalising people for sleeping in tents, and making it an offence for charities to help them, is unacceptable.

Improving quality of later life sometimes means less medical intervention not more. This should be the patient's informed decision. Older people and their families need to have realistic conversations with their doctors including about levels of intervention they want. (5/5)

Theatre, music, dance, and public speaking—as with medicine—are rooted in a protracted grind of rehearsal, memorisation, and preparation. What can clinicians learn from performing artists? Roger Kneebone explains #ChristmasBMJ bmj.com/content/383/bm…

In #NarrativeMedicine, people talk of "the patient as text" but that isn't quite right. Stories change as they're told, and as others interact. Other metaphors like taking stories for a walk or letting them breathe may be helpful. My column The BMJ bmj.com/content/384/bm…

Last week I laid out how delaying disease so we spend less time in ill health in older age is possible, good for all and essential for a sustainable NHS. Most people prioritise quality of life over quantity, and medical practice should reflect that. youtu.be/lCUY7oSDYBc?si…

We strongly denounce the Israeli airstrikes that hit a camp sheltering people on 26 May in Rafah. After the attack, 180 wounded & 28 dead were recorded at the Trauma Stabilisation Point we support in Tal al Sultan, Gaza. Patients we treated had traumatic injuries & burns👇1/3

This will resonate with many emergency physicians, paramedics and nurses across the UK. This is not an isolated problem affecting one rural hospital.

Good luck Danny! We lost five consultants from my department to pastures greener in the last year alone. Difficult commutes, having to get a hotel for on calls (no housing vaguely affordable within 30 minutes on an intense rota), and we just can’t compete with

As a patient I am genuinely concerned about what I perceive to be the current systemic attempt to deprofessionalise the medical profession in this country.

Gaza UPDATE: Following strikes, today MSF teams responded yet again to mass casualty influxes at the MSF clinic & Nasser Hospital in southern Gaza, and at Al Aqsa Hospital in Deir El Balah. This comes just days after Nasser Hospital received hundreds injured and killed.

I left Gaza the day before yesterday, after 8 weeks of working beside my Palestinian colleagues. In my first week I witnessed the murder by Israeli forces of two fishermen on the beach, one shot through the neck and one shot through the heart still holding his cast net.
