The #RegalLily grows in #Szechuan’s rugged mountains. But it was introduced to America in 1905. By the 1920s, the low-maintenance, showy flower inspired a lily renaissance. You can find these trumpet-shaped flowers in our #ConiferGarden along with many other #Lily varieties.

🐷🐮These purple Alliums grow next to the Shakespeare statue, within a woven Wattle fence. Alliums are named after the Latin word “aleo” or garlic. Aleo also translates to “avoid” (referring to garlic’s pungent odor). 🌸🌿 🧄

☀️🌼 Our orange and mauve #Daylilies are blooming in our #ConiferGarden, next to our #RegalLilies. But, spoiler alert, daylilies aren’t real lilies! True lilies are a long-lasting cut flower, whereas daylilies bloom…for a day.

🌵What’s the difference between a #Yucca & #Yuca? A Yucca (pronounced YUK-ka) has edible, above-ground parts. Whereas a Yuca (pronounced YEW-ka) has edible roots. Our #Adam’sNeedleYucca has white filaments along its leaves. While technically edible, Yuccas do taste a bit yucky.

🌛🌿 #LadyOfTheNightOrchid is a perfect moonlight garden plant. Its luminous, white-green flowers release a sweet citrus and gardenia-like scent in the evening. This scent attracts evening pollinators like #moths. 🐛Visitors can also admire it during the day, in our #OrchidHouse

⚜️🌿 🧑‍🌾 Lincoln Park has a French-style #FormalGarden overlooking the Conservatory. The garden is formal only in name & used recreationally by visitors who picnic, play hacky sack & games of catch. Dress comfortably, because it’s always casual Friday in our Formal Garden!

🌺🐝🍁The #RoseMallow is an exotic preamble to the fiery colors of fall. This fluorescent pink hibiscus blooms until the first frost: feeding pollinators after most plants end their bloom cycle. It can even survive Midwestern winters. Visitors can admire it in our #ShowHouse.
