As Ned Hammond points out, inflation was also exacerbated by food supply problems📈 Check out his thread on the issues and our proposed solutions, and see the report in full here👇 ukonward.com/reports/target…

This is a great report by Onward showing how rising energy & food prices drove the recent inflation spike. There are lots of good recommendations to tackle the root causes & make the UK more resilient to future price shocks by boosting homegrown clean energy and horticulture.

Inflation has fallen, but more inflationary shocks are coming, spurred by climate change, global conflict and protectionism. We cannot tackle inflationary shocks solely through contractionary monetary policy and expensive fiscal support. We need to be better insulated against

💬 Laurence Fredricks: "Britain cannot afford another inflation crisis. It's why economic growth is so anaemic, public debt is so high, and household budgets are so squeezed." Our new paper, Target Practice, lays out interventions to secure the UK's economy: ukonward.com/reports/target…

Great news Gov has increased AR6 budget, including £300m more for offshore wind. This is one of the things we called for in our recommendation to expand “home grown” renewables to lower exposure to volatile gas prices in our new report Target Practice gov.uk/government/new…

Interest rates are a great short term measure to tame inflation. But they are costly. In Target Practice we outline the long term measures to reduce our exposure to inflationary shocks caused by gas price spikes. Read more here👇🏻 ukonward.com/reports/target…

Today’s BUS stats show heat pump voucher applications exceeded 3k in July, doubling yoy and taking ytd growth to almost 80%. Great progress but still way off numbers needed to hit housing emissions targets. Won’t see mass switch required until electricity/gas price ratio falls…

Scottish wind farms = 40% of UK wind capacity. They also = 95% of the times wind farms are switched off. Gas plants are switched on in their place. Higher bills, more pollution! 💷🔥 We should build harder *and* smarter. We need to modernise the electricity market to do that.

Britain is in the midst of an unprecedented housing crisis. Planning reform is imperative, but local and national leaders need to use existing powers to build the homes Britain needs. The answer is already in the statute book: Development Corporations🧵 ukonward.com/reports/back-t…
