Great talk from Sara Peixoto on improving #eDNA monitoring for invasive #mussels through further validation of existing assays and large scale field testing. New records of quagga mussel provided indicating the species is more widespread than previously thought #UKDNAWG24
Nicholas Dunn from NE Chief Scientist describes the use of metaprobes by citizen scientists to detect marine species #UKDNAWG24
Stunning keynote by Berkeley EvoLab - from the visionary #vonHumboldt to #metabarcoding, #island ecology, #invasion #competition. Wow: #volcanic! #UKDNAWG24
Discussing time series #eDNA is Sebastian Mynott. 12 yrs, 3 markers, passive (50L) & point (1L) sampling. Passive gave 20x more DNA than point sampling. Samples collected in early yrs had higher sp richness. Matching trawl data up to 2018 showed decline in sp recovered over time #UKDAWG24
Another sparkling speedtalk session containing #eDNA from water and land from remote #islands, Mediterranean #cetaceans, #sponge #nsDNA, and #bioinformatic advances! Dr. Kirsten J Harper Chloé Fernandez Gert-Jan Jeunen Rosie Dowell #GeorgeRoderick. #UKDNAWG24
Some very cool Irish #lake #sedDNA results from Andrew Tighe going back ~10,000 years 🐗🐺🦌🐂 but those pesky #otters are still eluding detection even from sediment cores! Keep an eye out for the publication 👀 #UKDNAWG24
Katie Clark from Natural England sharing the goals of creation & optimisation of airborne #eDNA samplers. Want to develop new methods to survey terrestrial biodiversity in low cost, efficient way. Need help so asking community what they need & what can they do for you #UKDNAWG24
Great talk by Jake Jackman. 4 #eDNA capture methods compared for #fish detection - sterivex performed best followed closely by metaprobe. #eDNA transport by tidal movement modelled for scenarios of #eDNA detection relative to known distribution, or spurious detection #UKDNAWG24
Amazing cost reductions in this field. 100k specimens in a single Oxford Nanopore run - only $0.01 per specimen #UKDNAWG24
Great day sampling Llyn Cefni for the #LeDNA project yesterday with Dr Callum Macgregor. Well done @alpineeDNA Cátia Lúcio Pereira for coordinating this global #lake #eDNA sampling effort and making fab sampling kits! Look forward to seeing the results! #PartOfThePlan #ForNature
🧬#eDNA people, please help me spread the word: we have set up the #MAnES course at Universität Innsbruck @[email protected] for people who want to get into #eDNA and #MolecularTrophicInteractions covering #sampling #qPCR #metabarcoding #bioinformatics application deadline: 30th June!
Here we go! The first #webDNA #Postdoc is now open LJMU Biological & Environmental Sciences : jobs.ljmu.ac.uk/vacancy/postdo… LJMUResearchSupport The Leverhulme Trust EcoSAGE
