Jim Halliday was prescribed a drug for his dizziness. It ruined his life. A genetic test revealed why - and that it could’ve been avoided. #Pharmacogenomic testing can save lives, prevent tragedies and help patients find successful treatment faster but #Ontario isn’t funding it.

Our latest: the underground society of “professional guinea pigs” who loan their bodies to clinical researchers. Lured by money and “exploitative” perks, they routinely lie to researchers, which puts their health at risk and may taint the science used to approve medications.

Private companies in Canada are recruiting thousands of often economically desperate test subjects each year, using incentives that some experts say are both exploitative and push participants to lie. Latest #StarInvestigation alongside Investigative Journalism Bureau trib.al/Zf1d3BS
