A deluge of Thermo patents came in this month: - In-source FAIMS (Thermo version of TIMS, Part A?) - Gradient separation IMS (Thermo version of TIMS, Part B?) - Ardia - Timing Control for mrTOF No signs what the #ASMS2025 instrument will be except for maybe an Exploris

Starting with Thermo TIMS part B (will be apparent why on the next tweet): patents.google.com/patent/EP43948… - Essentially an ion trap before an ion funnel. - Ion elution is m/z dependent, correlating with elution voltage - Generates mobiliograms like we've seen with TIMS

Back to Part A (i.e. why FAIMS?): patents.google.com/patent/EP43948… - The ion trap IMS has limited charge capacity (as we've seen with TIMS) - By placing FAIMS immediately prior to TIMS, you throw out all the ions you don't want taking up all your charges - Bruker don't seem to have this

1/ Did you know the genome might have hidden protein-coding genes? In the 25 years since the Human Genome Project, research has been tied to a consensus set of 20,000 protein-coding genes. But the ‘dark genome’ has ‘dark proteins’ lurking in plain sight. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
