I highly recommend this article by Duncan McCargo and Rendy Wadipalapa analyzing and criticizing “unity” politics in Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand. it’s a very worthwhile read.

This is a great example of a serious and growing problem that’s been developing for a long-time but which hasn’t been effectively addressed because political leaders have other priorities.

This news is not surprising but nonetheless represents a significant negative step in Thai politics and further undermines the judiciary’s credibility.

The junta has been killing civilians across the country for years. Now there are multiple reports that the Arakan Army — which Is fighting against the junta — has killed large numbers of Rohingya In Rakhine.

Resistance forces in #Myanmar have captured a key military base, marking a significant defeat for the junta. Our Ye Myo Hein and Jason Tower spoke with DW News about the latest on this situation: dw.com/en/myanmar-mil…

When I was in Myanmar, I found Ye Myo Hein to be an astute analyst of the security situation. His excellent work continues now. This piece published by U.S. Institute of Peace is his latest and is well worth reading.

“I think it's a fundamental misreading of the situation inside Myanmar, that some of the people who have been involved in this, really, with all due respect, just don't know very much about Myanmar!” -- Scot Marciel, former US Ambassador to Burma insightmyanmar.org/coming-soon/20…

I don’t know if the resistance can seize and hold Mandalay, but the fact that it’s even being seriously discussed is remarkable and highlights both the strength of the resistance and the weakness of the junta.

Very interesting article. One question: Is pushing for action on climate change a values-driven approach? I don’t see it that way, unlike say democracy or human rights.

Thanks to Scot Marciel for recommending Saw Kapi to join our podcast. Saw Kapi’s dedication to education, and his current efforts in local governance training, inspire tremendous hope for Myanmar’s future. This is a great episode!

Good article by Josh Kurlantzick. To me, the US should support pro-democracy efforts/groups wherever possible but recognize the limits of its influence and sustain engagement except in extreme cases (eg the Myanmar junta).
