Our women's group are again loving their learn to ride cycling session's with Newport Live #Momentwm project - many didn't learn to ride a bike as a kid, but are eager to learn ! Lots of fun, sore legs and slightly sweaty faces ! So good for physical and mental wellbeing.

15 of our young people had a fabulous day out with some of their Social workers, thanks to the hospitality and generosity of our friends at HBTS4Refugees🧡 - climbing wall, bbq and boating in the Brecon Beacons.

Tomorrow, we have a group of families seeing a movie at the Riverfront theatre, a group of women learning to cycle, young men at a football session, a games dropin, & our weekly on street bike repairs. Some advocacy support through all that too. Our 3 staff are going to be busy !

My day - supported a young refugee getting his life back on track, arranged asbestos survey for our property, worked with an asylum seeker on a Uni scholarship, then with my team of 5 bike volunteers for the afternoon to give away 8 bikes and repair 12.

Today we moved one of our refugees out of our therapeutic Temporary Accommodation and into their own home after 10 years of uncertainty. Having a place to call home will enable them to continue rebuilding their life after being forcibly displaced from their home country.

Its been a day of cycling at the Gap Centre today. 6 of our women improved their cycling skills with Newport Live #momentwm staff - 1 learnt to ride for the 1st time, whilst our volunteer team of 6 completed 20 bike repairs and gave away 6 other bikes. #PedallingThePort

Today we worked alongside Social Services staff to support a young person in their care, who had absconded and was struggling with his situation. We listened, and with the support of a community volunteer with lived experience, helped him understand why things are as they are.

BRP cards expire on 31/12/24 to be replaced with an evisa. Our applicant was on egg timer for over 45 mins once he submitted today. Organisations funded to deliver this are not yet announced - we didn't apply as the process was too complex. Home Office hurry up & announce !

Our games room upstairs at the Gap Centre is an important space for many of our young people to catch up with each other after college. Today we partnered with Social Services to welcome 2 young people at the Gap Centre transferred from Kent to the care of Newport.

Our 6 refugee bike repair volunteers love it when there is heavy rain on a Thursday afternoon - we only had 7 walk in bike repairs today, so we caught up on a few repairs and had a tidy up. A lady who has just learnt to cycle with #Momentwm also got her 1st ever bike today. Lush

Today I visited our 2 Supported Accommodation flats for newly granted refugees. Helped 2 happy women move out of one and into their permanent homes, and found a young man happily watching netflix on our tv in the other. After a tough week, it reminded me why we do this.

Today, our staff supported some of the Gap Centre Community to look for work or get into college, and supported 2 households move out of our accom and into permanent homes, whilst another person moved in to our temporary supported accommodation to replace them. It was busy busy !
