As well as the ceremonies here in Kyiv, Ukraine’s Independence Day was marked across the UK today, including at this gathering on the North Inch in my home town of Perth. Perth and Kinross Council

Today I attended the consecration of St Andrew’s Church, a big moment in Bucha’s recovery from the horrors of Russian occupation. The church was the site of a mass grave, and today bears witness to these war crimes and preserves the memory of the victims. Justice will be done.

All day Russia has launched its cowardly air strikes on civilian infrastructure. But they will not succeed against the iron will of the Ukrainian people. My thoughts are with those killed and injured in today’s attacks. The perpetrators must be defeated and brought to justice.

The UK utterly condemns Russia’s cowardly missile and drone attacks on civilian infrastructure across Ukraine today. These assaults are in flagrant violation of international law and those responsible must be brought to justice.

Russia’s attacks on Ukrainian civilians are cowardly. Intentionally directing attacks on civilians and civilian objects constitutes a war crime. Over 35,000 Ukrainian civilians have been killed or injured since Russia’s invasion. Ukraine has a right to defend itself.

🇬🇧 On the eve of Remembrance Day for Defenders of Ukraine British Ambassador Martin Harris paid his respect to the fallen Ukrainian servicemen and servicewomen who have died fighting off the illegal aggression of Russia. Their bravery will never be forgotten! #StandWithUkraine

As we mark the International Day of the Disappeared, the UK stands with the thousands of Ukrainians who do not know where their loved ones are, or if they are alive. Russia must cease its use of enforced disappearances as a tool of suppression and release those it is holding.

Those responsible for Russia’s latest despicable attack on Kharkiv must be held to account. Homes destroyed, children killed and many injured. Kharkiv stopped Russian forces in 2022, and still resists today. Russia will never break the city’s iron will. #ХарківЗалізобетон

It was wonderful to see these treasures of Crimea on display at the Museum of the History of Ukraine. They were recently returned to Ukraine after a long legal battle. #CrimeaIsUkraine

Russia’s callous attack on Poltava today shows the continued depravity of Russia’s illegal war on Ukraine. My thoughts are with the families who’ve lost loved ones, and the brave first responders doing all they can to save lives. This evil must be defeated.

I was honoured to meet two great Crimean Tatar leaders. Nariman Dzelyal, sentenced to 17 years in prison in 2022 and released this summer, and the legendary Mustafa Dzhemilev who served 15 years in Soviet jails. Their heroic resistance to Russian oppression is inspiring.
