This is very good. One complication with AI is that the tech is nascent and changing fast, so it’s hard to fully separate invention and use. There’s lots of “learning by doing” to be done and so UK can’t / shouldn’t abdicate being at the frontier (but should still prioritise use)

If a friend asked you for 1 book to read as an intro to modern China (up into the Xi era), what would you recommend? Looking for something very readable (even fun?) for the lay person, not too long, gives a good amount of history but then takes it up to the present day.

It’s easy to underestimate the economic catastrophe of the last 16 years because it’s been gradual. But imagine we’d actually grown at 2% a year since 2008 and then lost it all at once this year: it would be a collapse of >30% Hard to overstate how radical we need to be now
