I visited BBC this morning for an interview. I also survived this encounter.

.Matt Wrack is completely right. Despite being 7 years on from Grenfell very little has changed. This week our new Government has a chance to change that. I hope that they respond to the Grenfell Inquiry with action to protect lives.

I spoke to BBC at the weekend about how the building safety crisis is a national scandal.

The Grenfell inquiry shows residents and first responders were failed by construction firms, central government, and the London Fire Brigade's management. We've consistently highlighted the risks of cladding since 1999, and we will continue to do so today.

It is clear that there were managerial failings from the London Fire Brigade in the lead up to the Grenfell Tower disaster. Learnings from the Lakanal fire were known about and were not passed on to frontline firefighters. That is not good enough. It puts all of us in danger.

The lessons of Grenfell still have not been learned. The fragmentation of the fire service poses a threat to our ability to set common practice and high standards. We need the Government to change that and take more responsibility for fire and rescue provision.

The lessons from Grenfell and even Lakanal still need to be learned. While the LFB were focused on privatisation and politicians were focused on cuts Fire Brigades Union raised the alarm about the dangers of cladding and staffing. Things must now change.

The Dagenham fire last week shows that the lessons of Grenfell still have not been learned. This inquiry must mark a turning point in this country's attitudes towards building safety. We need the Government to act on cladding and act quickly.

There is no justification for houses being unsafe. We live in an incredibly rich country. We cannot and will not accept that residents and firefighters be put at risk because of a lack of funding for renovations. Thousands of houses still have dangerous cladding on them. That

We believe there should be more training for high rise evacuations and situations like Grenfell but let’s also be clear that the fire should never have spread in the way it did. The core reason for the disaster was the failure of construction companies to protect residents.

For years, we've warned that deregulation would leave buildings and the public unsafe. The Grenfell Tower fire exposed the tragic consequences of ignoring our warnings. Government must listen and act to prevent another disaster.
