Keir Harding Mike Haslam @JohnBaker_Leeds Vanessa Gilmartin ( Garrity) RNMH She/Her Andy Bell I think this put into words my feelings after returning to mh after a 10 year break. With all the cuts tasks are prioritised. Remember the days with more staff and relational support enhanced. Certainly saw a difference when staff teams halved. Ps read 1984 for first time last yr

New blog post on the experience of “the self” It’s a long one so you might want a cuppa to go with it. Thoughts always welcome! betwixt8.wordpress.com

#mentalhealth #nurses "An insatiable thirst for metrics and defensive risk management practices have combined in a proliferation of time spent on record keeping as opposed to more relational care" 👇

Absolutely a future if we stand in solidarity and resist the loss of specialist nurse education. Aims of #MHDeservesBetter are just that, hopefully safeguarding the future of the MH nursing profession for many years to come!

yet in nurse education, I doubt there is more than an hour of content covering alcohol in most curriculums. student mental health nurses are forced to focus on generic content, limiting opportunity to develop the skills they need to work effectively with people at risk of suicide

Interesting reflections below on mine & Keir Harding's article, the intention of which was to inspire debate around how the use of restrictive practices in inpatient units arise from dichotomous thinking. Our own article here: doi.org/10.1108/MHRJ-1… linkedin.com/posts/joehawar…

Another paper accepted and now in production. Looking forward to seeing this one in print. Should hopefully be a timely addition to the ongoing discourse around #MentalHealth nurse role and function. #MHDeservesBetter

"Perhaps, we might suppose, we... have already learned to accept (though not necessarily to love) the status quo, akin to a neoliberal-induced, profession-wide Stockholm syndrome"... How do ideas of discipline and resistance in 1984 resonate with contemporary mental health care?

#MentalHealth #nursing our "state of ‘becoming’ acknowledges that our professional identity is not, and has never been, static, evolving in response to changes in the socio-political landscape and to the increasing complexity of our service users" I couldn't agree more Mike Haslam
