To authors, reviewers, editors, ghost writers and your native speaker cousin who goes over your manuscripts: Pretty please just use actual numbers in abstracts. There is no reason to say β€œlarge sample” when you can write β€œ52” or β€œ332” or β€œ1241”. In fact you save 3 words.

The #Unjournal.org pays for expert public evaluations of impactful quant social sci/econ/policy research. We're now *also* encouraging 'independent evaluations', as proposed at bit.ly/UJindependent (Gdoc). Looking for your interest & feedback, thanks!

Presenting (at University of Cape Coast (UCC)) on Wed. I'll introduce 'traditional peer review in #econtwitter' to contrast w/ open evaluation (#unjournal.org etc.) Sketching the process/timing. Does this seem ~accurate?: bit.ly/econtimings #OpenAccess #openscience BITSS

The amount of (suspected) AI-generated manuscripts and published papers is sharply rising. Why are journals not doing a better job screening for these? This generates an enormous burden for peer reviewers and pollutes the scientific literature. We need better tools and rules.

It took me SEVEN years to figure out that you can save a ggplot as a vectorized .svg file ggsave("file.svg"). The svg file can be opened on powerpoint and it will be completely vectorized, even text are still recognized as text boxes! No more recreating plots on illustrator!!!!!

It’s the third anniversary of newthingsunderthesun.com the β€œliving literature review” on social science research about innovation I created! I think more academics should consider writing living literature reviews and grant support is available. Thread!

Remember when we said that evidence on the positive effect of exercise on cognition is inconclusive? Well, some people weren’t too happy about that. They came to us with some critiques, so we decided to roll up our sleeves and dive deeper. Spoiler: our conclusions still stand

Psychologists love asking people how they think about trolley dilemmas to study moral decision-making: "Should you kill a person to save five?". But thinking about a dilemma is not the same thing as actually confronting one in real life. We developed a lab-based real-life
