The silence of Western feminists and Afghan men about the plight of 20 million women in Afghanistan is utterly disgraceful. These women have been deprived of all their rights— for more than three years—while both global and national discourse remains largely absent.

whenever a man says “childless women contribute nothing to society,” the ghost of the famously unmarried Jane Austen rises and says, “you are such a disagreeable man that it would be quite a misfortune to be liked by you.”

I'm just a mother standing in front of a pediatrician asking just HOW many more unpronounceable, viral, highly contagious illnesses my toddler hasn't had yet, so I can mentally prepare myself for the autumn/winter ahead.

#giselepelicot is rewriting the script on sexual shame. Rather than allow her dozens of rapists to be tried in private, she has forced them into the public spotlight so that other women might be safer in future. The shame is theirs, not hers. Gisele Pelicot is a hero.

As someone who works in the tech field, if you’re not profoundly disturbed by this pager story, you should be. The implications are massive.

I strongly condemn the massive terror attack in Lebanon and Syria, which injured thousands of people. A brutal escalation of violence. Silence is not an option. An international investigation is called for. The bloodshed must end.

The explosions in Lebanon open the path to a world where any civilian digital system can be rigged & weaponized, any civilian object turned into a sleepy agent ready to take out a combatant. This endangers not only civilians, but the whole civilian digital ecosystem as we know it

I’ve always avoided this platform but to see “experts” describe a state-sponsored terror attack - that has injured 3,000 people and killed 9, including a child - an “impressive operation “ is just disgraceful. We are all terrorized right now. Nothing “impressive” about that.

A major win for human rights! The U.S. gov’t sanctioned Intellexa + its execs for misusing invasive spyware against activists + journalists — violating fundamental freedoms. We demand continued action to rein in the unchecked surveillance tech industry. accessnow.org/press-release/…

International humanitarian law prohibits the use of booby traps – objects that civilians are likely to be attracted to or are associated with normal civilian daily use – precisely to avoid putting civilians at grave risk. hrw.org/news/2024/09/1…

So a 10 year old child is a legitimate target of an intelligence agency? I remember why I avoided this platform like the plague, lots of zionist white men trying to “fair-play” terrorism. I’m so disappointed by people I thought were in the same space of human rights.

My pager has been on my hip when I carried my children in my arms, when I bent over a child to sew a cut on her face, when I hugged a colleague, when I was pregnant. It’s been in the hands of my daughter as she played with the buttons & in a bag next to my son in the car.

If we accept that common, ubiquitous objects are fair game to operate as explosives, we accept living in a world with a whole new level of threat and terror.

This guy is right that tech has a huge climate cost. But it's telling that of all the items he thinks we should give up, he chooses appliances that relieve the burden of laundry & cooking, which still falls overwhelmingly on women. What about TVs, or smartphones, or ChatGPT?
