Looking over new archival material for this paper/the larger chapter it's going to be based on...and I could not be more excited to share some new work at American Historical Association in SF in January. The first foray into this project will be published in Surveillance & Society next month.

I'm really sorry if people are getting sick of me promoting my book. I know it's annoying and repetitive. But you can make it stop by buying the book, helping other people to learn about the book, or saying nice things about it.

I read through tons of century-old criminal trial transcripts in order to write this section about how much linguistic and cultural difference impacted criminal trials and arrests in the early 20th century.

Today is publication day! In honor of that Literary Hub has published an excerpt from my book which shows the chaos and xenophobia that presided over criminal trials in New York City at the turn of the 20th century.
