My full comments for the winning poems: "Two Owls" - sonically & symbolically the most complex & interesting poem, most rewards rereading. its deliberate conflation of predatory sight & visionary insight is like Ted Hughes but with more structure. firstthings.com/web-exclusives…

Full comment for the runner-up poem: "Gather Ye" - the best-executed sonnet in a field full of sonnets, with great human interest whose image of the buried shears dovetails with a more cosmic or zoomed-out sense of the couple at the heart of the poem's garden Congrats to all!
