Starbucks is a useful baseline for local cafe culture. In some places it dominates, in others it’s a place only a few tourists go. The latter is a good sign.

I read the whole thing (and it's long). While I'm not that into metascience generally, the essay really made me reflect about my own positioning and choices as a researcher.
