And it's about damn time! I was ready to vote for him to be council president five years ago.

Don’t be fooled. This is not a public safety budget.

Safety comes by reducing harm & trauma, and preventing crime. This budget allocates a mere $10m to unarmed mental health response and cuts money for people & programs that prevent crime. It moves us backwards on safety.

Journalists aren't the only ones who need to learn this. So do a lot of elected officials.

In L.A. politics, when a disgraced establishment pol is being challenged by an exciting progressive outsider with grassroots support, the statute of limitations apparently expires for anti-Black racism and making disgusting remarks about a child.

So much love and respect for this fierce progressive champion. Elizabeth Alcantar is a servant leader, a movement builder, an awesome human being and, quite simply, a rock star.

LAPD and LASD continue to assault press freedoms, detaining and arresting reporters, and interfering with the work of journalists covering legitimate news events.

This problem is not new, and it’s not getting better. This keeps happening, and it’s dangerous.
