At some point I’ll be able to truly wrap my mind around this incredible experience, but for now I’m just in awe. I feel especially lucky to have connected with these NJ & Carolina Milken Family Fdn educators in particular, who quickly helped me feel “at home” & inspired!

We concluded our project based learning Donut Shop unit by transforming our classroom into a cafe! Throughout the project, we were able to review nearly all fourth grade math standards, incorporate our business savvy, and get creative!

Alternatives to traditional homework.

Disciplinary literacy - The way that a historian reads, writes and thinks is different to how a mathematician operates. Each subject context has different needs and requirements. It's useful to point this out and have students (and even teachers!) reflect on this.

If you're looking for a way to establish a collaborative learning culture in the opening weeks, a tool I lean on early on is having students complete "collaborative slide decks"—each group filling out a slide with their combined observations/thinking

The RHS summer enrichment program accepted the challenge! Students toured the schools, researched Riverside history, and developed a plan to beautify our schools. Plans utilized a budget and included a connection to Riverside’s past! #RamUp

This is so obvious in the classroom. The more practice problems students solve on their own with pencil and paper, the more math they master, by 𝘧𝘢𝘳. Pre-worked examples with related practice problems and access to feedback can maximize this essential practice time - for all.

Algebra students learned “calculator hacks” to break down complex equations with multiple variables- A great way to set up standard tips & tricks for the course! You know it’s a great lesson when you walk out having learned something new from both the teacher & students! #RamUp
