Remember how many of us were super upset about NIH's proposal to limit K99 eligibility to 2 years? If you never managed to to submit your input to NIH yet, the feedback form is open until October - don't forget! rfi.grants.nih.gov/?s=6660cc1aa12…

Wayne T Cheng, PhD student candidate at UGA from Dr. Chester J Joyner lab is presenting their work on getting P. Vivax in vitro culture That would be an absolute game changer to the field.

The scale of loss caused by defunding VEuPathDB will be fully realized in the coming months. Not being entirely hyperbolic when I compare this to arson in the library of Alexandria. Our collective expertise in the Global health community resides here, but in danger of being lost

Just saw the same presentation at #mpm2024 It is clear that the funding decision was made without much thought about the end user or how we use the NIAID Bioinformatics BRC resources. The lack of transparency from a federal agency is troubling.

Not a great decision by NIH NIAID News IMO The piece doesn't mention that the database also includes FungiDB which covers many human pathogens. Not clear whether NIAID will replace this resource with anything. science.org/content/articl…

Leslie Vosshall PhD NIH Dr. Monica M. Bertagnolli VEuPathDB is so much more than just another data repository. The ability to integrate results from different types of experiments and across species, expertly curated datasets to enhance accuracy, and lots of orphan data (no repository) like phenotypic screens.
