Remember when walking and cycling was the normal way of getting around - especially to school? Or when Aotearoa had extremely high interregional rail patronage? There is no need to manufacture a culture war between different modes of transport. We need all types to function!!!

If this government published a chart with such a massive gap between funding and revenue over ten years for, say, health or public housing, I think it would be asking itself some very serious questions. If a council did it we would be told to cut our cloth and get back to basics.

Dear old Pōneke is in a tight spot. We all contribute to beautiful DNA: curious, critical, welcoming, generous and ingenious. It's our choice kick it while it's down or breathe life into it. Appreciate Julie Jacobson for letting me shake the city pompoms. thepost.co.nz/nz-news/350400…

Charts in new transport plan show NZTA on track for some hard times ahead. Larger deficit between revenue and spending than what HealthNZ is forecasting - Crown grants look like main solution. That’s money for other capital projects (schools/ hospitals) nzherald.co.nz/nz/politics/na…

Talking up political consensus on infrastructure would be more credible if the government had not just published a seriously unbalanced, high risk, unaffordable and politically charged transport plan, undermining many transport and housing priorities of locally elected councils.

When the Mayor and I were in Busan, South Korea, there were many officials and elected members that were very proud to tell us about the interislander ships being built nearby at Hyundai Mipo. To hear, this is how they found out it was scrapped, sucks. nzherald.co.nz/nz/interisland…

With all the doom-mongering of late, it's good to see and hear some WELLINGTON LOVE - onya, Councillor! What are YOUR favourite things about the Capital?!

Quite astonishing that *in 2024* a government could decide to direct its national transport agency to ban funding for raised crossings, including outside schools that are asking for them because they want to children to be safer. This feels pretty extreme. newsroom.co.nz/2024/09/04/pri…

#OPINION: The country's new transport plan steers NZ back to a car-dependent past. New Zealanders will likely find themselves stuck in worsening traffic, waiting for highways that may never materialise 👇 1news.co.nz/2024/09/04/opi…

Geography, geometry and the laws of physics make it impossible to scale up housing within our cities without substantially expanding all current levels of public transport service, especially if you want value for money. NZ’s transport policy is undermining urban housing growth.

As well as getting way more buses through town, the new Harbour Quays bus route will also result in loads more bus stops, serving more destinations for more people with much more covered shelter than we have now. We will make this happen despite government funding constraints.
