What a great debate in the Senedd last night on #Fostering! We welcome Dawn Bowden’s vision “for all children to have stability, trusted relationships and benefit from high-quality foster care for as long as they need it, to make a successful transition into adulthood” 👏

Huge thanks to Martin Whitfield MSP for bringing this important debate on Foster Care Fortnight #FCF24 to the Scottish Parliament today. He highlighted the importance of foster care to #KeepThePromise and shared our calls for better training, status and fees for foster carers.

We are pleased Liberal Democrats manifesto commits to improve kinship care. But we are disappointed that there is no similar commitment for foster care and minimal focus on need to invest in the wider children’s social care system. Read our manifesto ⬇️ bit.ly/42RoK2B #GE2024

We are disappointed Conservatives state "every child deserves to live in a safe and loving home" in their manifesto but do not mention foster care at all. We believe this can only be achieved through investing in foster care. Read our manifesto⬇️ bit.ly/42RoK2B #GE24

Welcome to the new government!🗳️ We hope those in power will do more to ensure fostering families are supported so young people in care can thrive. We’re looking forward to working with The Labour Party – find out what we’re asking for in our manifesto. bit.ly/3W8lH4h

Great to be at launch of Action for Children new report and campaign #APlaceToCallHome. The report supports calls we've been making to increase the recruitment and retention of foster carers and allowances. Looking forward to campaigning on this together.

‘It costs to care and we have to make sure foster carers are remunerated in the right ways’ Our CEO Sarah Thomas spoke to Naga Munchetty on BBC Radio 5 Live this morning about foster carer fees.📻 Our new report 'Out of Pocket: Fairer Fees for Foster Carers' will go live this afternoon.

Almost half of fostering services are providing between £100-200 per week, which for most fostering families is an annual income of £5,200 - £10,400 per year.

It’s unacceptable that there are such huge differences in fees paid to foster carers. We are calling on all governments across the UK to invest in a strong fee framework, to ensure foster carers can continue to support children and young people to thrive. #CostOfFostering

Thank you to Jeremy Vine for highlighting the disparities in foster carer fees across the UK on BBC Radio 2. Our investigation found a postcode lottery when it comes to fees, and now we're calling on the government to act. Read the report ⤵️ thefosteringnetwork.org.uk/sites/default/…
